Effect of Huanglian Wendan Decoction on Metabolic Syndrome and Cognitive Function
Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of Huanglian Wendan decoction on metabolic syndrome(MS)with phlegm stasis and its influence on cognitive function.Methods:A total of 70 MS patients with mild cognitive impairment(MCI)were selected.The patients were divided into two groups using the random number table method.The patients in control group were treated with conventional western medicine,and the patients in observation group was treated with modified Huanglian Wendan decoction on this basis,for 4 weeks treatment.TCM syndrome score,body mass index(BMI),systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),triglyceride(TG),cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein(HDL),low density lipoprotein(LDL),fasting blood glucose(FPG),serum insulin(FINS)and insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR),Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale(MoCA)score,and the occurrence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.Results:After treatment,TCM syndrome score,BMI,SBP,DBP,TG,TC,HDL,FPG,FINS,and HOMA-IR levels in the 2 groups decreased,and the index of observation group were significantly better than those in control group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).After treatment,the MoCA score and LDL level of two groups increased,and those in observation group were better than those in control group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).No adverse reactions occurred in the two groups.Conclusion:Modified Huanglian Wendan Decoction combined with conventional Western medicine can effectively improve the clinical symptoms of MS patients with MCI,regulate glucose and lipid metabolism,and improve cognitive function without any adverse reactions.
