Professor ZHANG Shiqing's experience in treating infantile exogenous fever with Dayuan Qingre Fang(达原清热方)
Professor ZHANG Shiqing points out that the etiology and pathogenesis of infantile exogenous fever mainly lie in the fact that children's minds are not fully developed, and they do not know how to regulate their diet, easily leading to indigestion of milk and food, which forms stagnation that hinders the movement of qi in the spleen and stomach. This results in dysfunction of spleen and stomach in transporting and transforming food, internal reten-tion of dampness and water, and eventually the formation of damp-heat over time.Additionally, exogenous pathogens such as the six external pathogens invade the exterior, combining with internal factors, causing the stagnation of yang qi,and a prolonged struggle between the healthy qi and pathogens, leading to fever. The treatment principles include dispelling wind and clearing heat, eliminating stagnation, and resolving phlegm. The prescription,Dayuan Qingre Fang,is formulated based on Dayuan Fang(达原方),Baihu Tang(白虎汤),and Shengjiang San(升降散).Mean-while,during treatment,it is crucial to differentiate the etiology, emphasize syndrome differentiation, closely follow the pathogenesis, and consider the unique physiological and pathological characteristics of children.Medication should be simple, light, and precise, with a moderate dosage. The goal is to achieve targeted efficacy with minimal medication and stop treatment once the disease is alleviated.Special attention should be paid to protecting the spleen and stomach while eliminating pathogens, aligning with the etiology and pathogenesis, resulting in satisfactory thera-peutic effects. Two case studies are attached for verification.
