The occurrence of functional gastrointestinal disorders(FGIDs)is related to the dysfunction of the five internal organs, among which spleen-yin deficiency and the disruption of qi movement and nourishing functions are the crucial pathogenesis.Children's gastrointestinal system is delicate and prone to consume spleen-yin.Spleen-yin deficiency can lead to the obstruction of qi movement in the middle-jiao,the generation of internal deficient fire, and the loss of nourishment to the spleen and stomach. Therefore, reinforcing spleen and nourishing yin should be the principle of treatment.Clinically,sweet-flavored herbs, including mildly sweet,sweet-cold,and sour-sweet types, serve as the foundation, with the addition of herbs that can mildly drain dampness, thereby reinforcing the spleen without generating other pathogens. This approach aims to enhance the spleen's ability to nourish the whole body's viscera and its function of transportation and transformation.A case study is presented for verification.
