Clinical observation on the treatment of 29 cases of pediatric sleep terror disorder of kidney yin deficiency pattern with modified Zhibai Dihuang Tang(知地黄汤)
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of modified Zhibai Dihuang Tang(知柏地黄汤)in the treatment of pediatric sleep terror disorder of kidney yin deficiency pattern. Methods A total of 60 pediatric pa-tients with sleep terror disorder and kidney yin deficiency syndrome who visited the Pediatrics Department of Wei-fang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from May 2023 to October 2023 were enrolled and randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group, with 30 patients in each group.During the treatment period,1 patient dropped out from the control group(due to unsatisfactory treatment effect)and 1 patient dropped out from the treatment group(lost contact due to no response to phone calls),resulting in 29 patients in each group for the final analysis. The control group was treated with Longmu Zhuanggu Keli(龙牡壮骨颗粒),while the treatment group received modified Zhibai Dihuang Decoction. The clinical efficacy of both groups was evaluated after 2 consecutive weeks of treatment. Results Before treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)scores between the two groups(P>0.05),indicating comparability. After treatment, the PSQI scores of both groups decreased significantly compared with those before treatment, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05),and the decrease in PSQI scores was more pronounced in the treatment group(P<0.05).Before treat-ment,there was no statistically significant difference in the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores between the two groups(P>0.05),indicating comparability. After treatment, the scores for primary and secondary symptoms in both groups decreased significantly compared with those before treatment, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).Additionally,the treatment group showed more significant reductions in the number of episodes,dura-tion,frequency of attacks, ease of soothing to sleep, and sweating scores compared with the control group after treat-ment,with statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The total effective rate was 82.76%(24/29)in the control group and 93.10%(27/29)in the treatment group, with a statistically significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Modified Zhibai Dihuang Tang can effectively improve clinical symptoms and sleep quality in pediatric patients with sleep terror disorder and kidney yin deficiency syndrome,dem-onstrating significant therapeutic efficacy and warranting clinical promotion and application.
