Application of TSP + SSP for ideological and political education in clinical internship of traditional Chinese internal medicine
Objective To explore a way of teaching that cannot only improve the instructional quality but integrate ideological and political education elements into the clinical internship.Methods The present research added teacher standardized patient(TSP)+ student standardized patient(SSP)to the conventional ways of teaching in internship,and assessed the new practice through questionnaire responses as well as formative evaluation grades of student interns from various aspects such as the teaching effects.The subjects selected for the study included 57 students from the Excellent Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Class of 2025 and 31 from Nanyang Technological University Class of 2022.Results From a total of 88 valid questionnaire responses collected,the results showed that 88.6%of the students were satisfied with the TSP + SSP teaching,90.9%thought that most of them could participate in relevant activities,92%believed that it was superior to the traditional mode of internship,and 95.6%stated that the new teaching method could improve their skills of doctor-patient communication and strengthen their humanistic care for patients.Compared with the previous classes of the same major who were trained with the traditional internship,the scores of case history writing of the Excellent Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Class were higher than those of the previous class(P<0.01),and the in-class quiz scores of Nanyang Technological University Class were higher than those of the previous class(P<0.01).Conclusion TSP + SSP can well integrate the ideological and political elements of humanistic care into teaching,improve students' performance and involve most students,which could complement the traditional ways of teaching.
