Application of intelligent OSCE assessment system in traditional Chinese medicine clinical skills practical training assessment
Objective To apply the intelligent Objective Structured Clinical Examination(OSCE)assessment system to the practical training examination of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)clinical skills,in order to objectively, fairly, and efficiently evaluate the clinical skills of TCM students, and at the same time provide feedback on teaching to assist in cultivating TCM talents. Methods We carried out the practical training assessment of TCM clinical skills for undergraduate students majoring in TCM in the Class of 2024 at Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, designed a questionnaire to conduct a survey of the candidates, examiners, and standard patients(SPs)after the examination, and analyzed the scores, personnel input and time consumed of this examination, and compare them with those of the previous year when the intelligent OSCE assessment system was not used. Results The examiners were highly satisfied with the format and content of the examination. Most candidates believed that the examination can effectively assess their doctor-patient communication, humanistic care,TCM ways of thinking, and comprehensive skills. The scores reflected that they were weaker in the overall mastery of physical examination than in other parts of the test.Compared with the last year without the use of such assessment system, the examination process and the post-examination result collection were less time-consuming,and fewer examination staff members were needed. Conclusion The intelligent OSCE assessment system can significantly improve the overall efficiency of clinical skills examination while the layout of examination rooms and facilities still warrants further optimization.
