Application of head CT scan database in standardized training of traditional Chinese medicine residents
Objective To explore the teaching effects of the training method of head CT scan interpretation making use of the multi-lesion,multi-temporal and multi-dimensional head CT scan database in the standardized training of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)residents. Methods The TCM residents of the Class of 2022 at Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine were assigned to the experimental group receiving training of reading scans using the head CT scan database. On the other hand, the residents of the Class of 2021,as the control group, were trained using the traditional method of reading CT scans and lecturing on theory. The effectiveness of the training methods was evaluated by means of questionnaire survey of the experimental group and statistical analysis of the two groups' skill examination scores. Results The 60 responses to the survey questionnaires randomly distributed in the experimental group showed that 83.3%of the residents believed this training method was conducive to mastering the sectional anatomy of head CT scan;75%the dynamic evolution of cerebral infarction reflected by the scans;90%the dynamic evolution of cerebral hemorrhage;75%thought that it could improve their ability of lesion identification and prognosis of cerebral infarction;and 86.7%cerebral hemorrhage. In the Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Residence Training Skill Assessment, the number of students who scored between 1.5 and 2 in the experimental group for the relevant question were significantly larger than that of the control group with statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion The training method based on"multi-lesion,multi-temporal and multi-dimensional"head CT scan database could improve TCM residents' ability of preliminary diagnosis, lesion detection, accurate diagnosis and prognosis based on CT scan reading.
