Practice and exploration of mixed teaching of the course Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing
Objective To explore the implementation process and outcome of mixed teaching based on contextual teaching and small private online course(SPOC)in the course Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing, and to provide reference for constant improvement of teaching quality of the clinical nursing course. Methods Based on SPOC,the concept of contextual teaching was introduced into the course. We created a situational line throughout six modules of the course and taught each unit along the line of"situation warm-up,introduction,immersion,and extension"to connect online,offline,pre-class,in-class,and post-class learning. In this way,we systematically integrated simulated situations, knowledge, problems, ways of thinking, and tasks. Results Students welcomed such design of the mixed learning. They were active in online learning. For instance, each student watched an average of 91.4%of the total number of teaching videos,96.88%students finished pre-class homework, and 95%participated in online discussion. They believed that such mixed learning based on contextual teaching and SPOC could enhance their understanding of knowledge, develop their ways of thinking for nursing problems, improve their potential clinical skills, and strengthen autonomous learning and self-discipline.Conclusions The mixed learning based on contextual teaching and SPOC could provide students with scaffolding for knowledge understanding, transfer, application and re-creation step by step online and offline, ultimately promoting the quality of teaching and learning of the course Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing.
