Configurational research on the employment choices of management students in traditional Chinese medicine universities:a case study of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine
Objective To investigate the factors influencing the employment choices of management students in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)universities and to propose important directions for promoting their employment from a configuration perspective of.Methods The study included 22 participants,all of whom were alumni of the School of Management at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.They voluntarily participated in and completed structured interviews assessing the university environment,including satisfaction with campus life,the impact of school experience,understanding of their major,and the fit between career and interests,etc.The interview responses were categorized as"low","normal","above normal","high"and multivalued set qualitative comparative analysis(mvQCA)was used to explore the impact of college education on students′ employment choices and job adaptability.Results Four configurations were identified that promote students towards academic/administrative employment:1)high campus lifesatisfaction,normal impact of school experience,high professional understanding,and above normal fit between career and interests;2)high campus life satisfaction and above normal impact of school experience,professional understanding,and the fit between career and interests;3)above normal campus life satisfaction,professional understanding,the fit between career and interests,and the normal impact of school experience;4)high campus life satisfaction,the influence of school experience,the fit between career and interests,and above normal professional understanding.Two configurations were identified that promote students towards technical/business employment:1)normal campus life satisfaction,impact of school experience,high professional understanding,and above normal between career and interests;2)high campus life satisfaction,impact of school experience,high professional understanding,and fit between career and interests.The match between students′ employment and their majors is not significantly influenced by other factors,except for professional understanding and campus life satisfaction.Conclusion By enhancing the professional understanding of management students in TCM universities and strengthening the construction of campus living environment,it is possible to promote the alignment between their future employment and their majors.Targeted identification and cultivation of employment characteristics of TCM management students can facilitate the employment development.
