Application of CBL combined with PBL in the teaching of Chinese Medical Emergency in the class of Western medicine studying Chinese medicine
Objective To explore the application of the combined Case-Based Learning(CBL)and Problem-Based Learning(PBL)teaching methods in the teaching of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)emergency medicine in Western Medicine intermediate classes, aiming to enhance students'ability to apply TCM emergency thinking. Methods Employing the combined CBL and PBL teaching methods as the main teaching approach, the course starts with critical conditions and specialized diseases such as coma, collapse, stroke, etc.Representative emergency cases and scenario simulations are meticulously selected for teaching.Students take the lead, with teachers and students jointly discussing and analyzing the key difficulties in the diagnosis and treatment process of the cases, comparing TCM and Western emergency medicine thinking, and ultimately helping students establish TCM emergency thinking. Results After the teaching session, there was an increased recognition of the effectiveness of TCM in treating emergencies among students, enhanced ability to differentiate TCM emergency conditions, and improved mastery of emergency Chinese patent medicines, with statistically significant differences(P<0.05)as determined by χ2 test. Conclusion The application of combined CBL and PBL teaching methods in TCM emergency medicine teaching in Western Medicine intermediate classes can help students improve their TCM emergency diagnostic thinking, enhance their ability to use common emergency Chinese patent medicines, and their capacity to manage emergencies using TCM techniques.
