Spatial knowledge spillover and regional industrial upgrading under the influence of expressway construction
The construction of transportation infrastructure is an important force to reshape the economic relations network and opti-mize the economic spatial pattern.Based on the data of expressway network, this paper investigated the mechanism through which trans-portation development influences spatial knowledge spillover and regional industrial upgrading. The findings demonstrated that express-way construction not only mitigated the inhibiting impact of spatial distance on inter-regional spatial knowledge spillover but also di-minished the constraints imposed by other segmentation factors such as economic or cultural distance on spatial knowledge diffusion. Moreover,it facilitated the dissemination of knowledge between regions with varying levels of development or diverse cultural back-grounds,thereby enhancing the benefits derived from spatial knowledge spillover for regional industrial upgrading.Local governments should prioritize and fully leverage the positive influence of transportation development on spatial knowledge spillover, strengthen inter-regional connectivity, and eliminate hidden barriers that impede both spatial knowledge spillover and technology diffusion to effectively promote regional industrial upgrading.
