How does land transfer promote farmers'income in karst areas?——Based on empirical evidence from 3 678 households in 8 provinces
Fully leveraging the income increasing effect of land transfer in karst areas is an effective channel to promote the high-quality development of mountainous agriculture.Based on micro-research data from 3 678 farming households in eight provinces(dis-tricts/municipalities)in karst areas of China, this paper used the ordered Logit model, the propensity score matching method, and the KHB method to investigate the impact and mechanism of land transfer on rural household income. The results showed that:① Land transfer significantly increased the level of total household income of farmers in karst areas, and the income level of land transfer farmers was about 12.86 per cent higher than that of households not involved in land transfer.②The impact of land transfer out on the income growth of farmers was more significant than that of land transfer in farmers.③Outside work and family entrepreneurship played a media-ting role in the relationship between land transfer out and the income of farm households, with an explanation ratio of 17.18 per cent and 4.63 per cent, respectively.Agricultural mechanization played an intermediary role in the impact of land transfer in on the income of farm households with more level land, with an explanatory ratio of 16.93 per cent.④ The impact of land transfer on the total household income of farmers who grew cash crops, cultivated more level land, and had better irrigation conditions was significantly positive.There-fore,the government should improve the land transfer mechanism in karst areas, promote the development of non-agricultural indus-tries,strengthen the construction of agricultural mechanization and farmland water conservancy facilities in hilly and mountainous areas, develop characteristic and efficient agriculture in karst areas, and encourage more farmers to actively participate in land transfer.
