Digital economy development is an important way to accelerate the green transformation of economic development mode and promote the improvement of residents'well-being.Based on the provincial panel data from 2011 to 2021,this paper measured the digital economy development index and ecological welfare performance value using the entropy value method and SBM model,and exam-ined the impact of digital economy development on ecological welfare performance and the mechanism of its action by using the Tobit model and mediation effect method.The results showed that:①Digital economic development significantly contributed to the improve-ment of ecological welfare performance,and the conclusion still held after the robustness test.②Heterogeneity analysis showed that both the high digital economy level group and the low digital economy level group could promote ecological welfare performance improve-ment.In addition,the development of digital economy could significantly promote the ecological welfare performance improvement in the eastern region,but didn't have a significant effect on the central and western regions.③The digital economy significantly contributed to the improvement of ecological welfare performance through the enhancement of economic scale,industrial structure upgrading and tech-nological innovation.Therefore,this paper proposed suggestions to continuously promote the development of the digital economy,strengthen technological innovation,and formulate differentiated strategies for the central and western regions,with a view to providing reference and inspiration for the improvement of ecological welfare performance in China.
