Specialization of science and technology services in the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration and regional economic growth:Theory and empirical analysis
This article utilizes data on the science and technology service industry in the urban agglomeration of the Beibu Gulf in China from 2014 to 2022,calculates the regional specialization level of the science and technology service industry in each city of the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration using the regional specialization relative index,and employs the C-D production function to empirically test the impact of the regional specialization of the science and technology service industry in the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration on e-conomic growth.The main conclusions are as follows:First,the overall regional specialization level of the science and technology service industry in each city of the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration needs to be further improved,and the regional specialization index of the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration exhibits differentiated characteristics at three different levels.Second,the regional specialization of the science and technology service industry in the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration has a significant positive effect on economic growth.How-ever,from the regression coefficients of various variables,the contribution rate of regional specialization of the science and technology service industry to economic growth is lower than that of physical capital,labor,and technological changes.Third,there is a close and mutually promoting relationship between the regional specialization of the science and technology service industry and economic growth in the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration.The enhancement of regional specialization can promote the aggregation and development of the science and technology service industry,thereby driving economic growth in the entire region.Economic growth,in turn,provides broader markets and more development opportunities for the science and technology service industry,further promoting its development.Fourth,based on the above conclusions,this article proposes optimizing the regional specialization layout of the science and technology service industry in each city of the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration,promoting the transformation and upgrading of the science and technology service industry towards high-end,intelligence,digitization,and green development under the guidance of new development concepts,accelerating the formation of new productive forces in the science and technology service industry,strengthening the cultivation and in-troduction of high-end talents in the science and technology service industry in the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration,and promoting e-conomic growth and other policy recommendations.
