Digital economy boosts the development of new urbanization:An analysis based on spatial Durbin model and Threshold model
This paper deconstructed new urbanization from the four dimensions of population urbanization, economic urbanization, social urbanization, and ecological urbanization.Based on the theoretical framework of the digital economy promoting the development of new urbanization, using panel data from 283 prefecture-level and above cities in China from 2011 to 2020 as samples, this paper em-pirically tested the"local-neighborhood"effect and threshold effect of the digital economy on new urbanization using spatial Durbin model and panel threshold model. The results showed that:①Digital economy had a significant promoting effect on both local and neigh-boring new urbanization.②Decomposing the action path,it was found that the digital economy had a significant impact on the four di-mensions of local new urbanization, and exhibited obvious spatial spillover effects on neighboring population urbanization and economic urbanization.③Heterogeneity analysis revealed that regional differences between the eastern and central-western regions have led to different effects of the digital economy on its new urbanization;A city that was too large or too small was not conducive to the digital e-conomy to effectively promote the development of new urbanization in the local and neighboring areas.④The promotion effect of the dig-ital economy on new urbanization had nonlinear characteristics. When the level of the digital economy exceeded the second threshold value, its promotion effect was greatly enhanced.Further analysis showed that there were dual thresholds for population urbanization and economic urbanization, and a single threshold for ecological urbanization.
