Study on the impact of industrial structure adjustment on regional environmental pollution——Evidence from 278 prefecture-level cities in China
The impact of industrial structural upgrading on urban air pollution has been a pivotal research topic in the field of in-dustrial economics. This paper focused on 278 cities in China during the period from 2011 to 2019,employing the STIRPAT model and dynamic spatial panel econometric model to investigate the effects and underlying mechanisms of industrial structural adjustment on ur-ban air pollution.results showed that:①Industrial structural adjustment significantly reduced the emissions of urban air pollutants,a conclusion that holded true after a series of robustness checks, with technological innovation and green development being identified as crucial mechanisms influencing the relationship between industrial structural adjustment and urban air pollution.②Heterogeneity analy-sis revealed negative spatial spillover effects of industrial structural adjustment on urban air pollutants, with variations observed in pollu-tion reduction effects across different regions.③Industrial structural adjustment exhibited characteristics of nonlinear incremental effects on air pollution,with"double-threshold"and"marginal effects"indicating stage-wise changes in the impact of industrial structural optimization on urban environmental pollution, varying with different levels of economic development.
