Music tourism constitutes a critical part of cultural tourism, which can not only broaden advancement channels of the tourism industry, but also greatly enrich the cultural life of the residents.Beijing, one of the biggest cities in China, enjoys nearly all the music tourism attractions and it also represents the highest level of cultural and creative industries. Thus, the authors examined the spatial distribution of music tourism attractions in Beijing.Based on previous studies, the authors utilized the network combined with the literature and field investigations. Here, music tourism attractions were conceptually divided into three groups according to their functions: music tourism attractions for musical performance, sightseeing, and leisure.Subsequently,an music tourism attractions database was built based on this classification. With the aid of GIS,the spatial distribution was analyzed. In view of the overall allocation, the music tourism attractions center on the National Grand Theater in Beijing, spreading outward in concentric circles. Furthermore, traffic is the leading factor affecting the distribution of music tourism attractions, which is mainly along the principal loops and subways in Beijing.Specifically,1)there are 84 music tourism attractions for musical performance samples, including concert halls and theatres, which are concentrated in around conservatories, art troupes, and culture centers.Meanwhile; relevant policies help optimize the layout of the music tourism attractions for musical performance. 2)27 music tourism attractions for sightseeing samples were considered, including music theme parks, music culture industrial parks, musical instruments streets, music buildings, and music festival places. The majority of them depend on large urban parks, which are the best places to perform some music activities. It was found that the music industry cluster is developing, which helps promote their mutual cooperation;3)Data of 178 music tourism attractions for leisure samples were collected, including music-theme restaurants, music bars, and music teahouses, which have a similar distribution in comparison with that of hotel industry. It is worth mentioning that a large percentage of them are distributed mainly in business centers or commercial streets, which obviously possess a large number of customers with high disposable income.Houhai and Wangfujing Commercial Street are the typical cases. This study could be applied to urban planning and cultural industry management.Overall, the distribution of music tourism attractions in Beijing is enormously uneven,so further optimization and adjustment by relevant authorities are essential.
