A review on TCM moxibustion in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy
Cervical spondylotic radiculopathy is a common type of cervical spondylopathy in spine orthopedics.The clinical manifestations include unilateral neck and shoulder pain and radiating pain,numbness or hypoesthesia of the upper limbs,which may be accompanied by muscle atrophy in severe cases.The clinical treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy can be divid-ed into surgical treatment and conservative treatment.Due to the high risk,large trauma,many complications and long recovery period of cervical spine surgery,conservative treatment is the first choice for most patients,except for patients with acute muscular paralysis,spinal cord injury or severe pain who need early surgical intervention.Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics and dehydrating and detumes-cent drugs are the main drugs for Western medicine treatment,which can relieve the pain of neck and shoulder,but they have gastrointesti-nal adverse reactions and liver and kidney damage,and cannot be taken for a long time.The traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy is mainly based on oral administration of Chinese medicinal materials,acupuncture and manipula-tion.Oral administration of Chinese medicinal materials is not suitable for patients with poor gastrointestinal function,and some patients refuse to take Chinese medicinal materials orally because of the taste adverse reactions.Manual massage therapy has certain requirements for the technical level of the operator,and improper manipulation may aggravate the compression of the nerve.At the same time,some patients refuse acupuncture treatment due to fear of acupuncture pain or dizziness.In contrast,moxibustion of traditional Chinese medicine has been more and more widely used in the clinical treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy because of its non-invasive,safe,com-fortable and effective characteristics.Based on the clinical research results in recent years,this article summarizes the research progress of various moxibustion methods in the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy,in order to provide reference for the clinical treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy in traditional Chinese medicine.
