A review on the application of TCM liver and kidney theory in treating perimenopausal dry eye
Dry eye is a common ophthalmology disease among the premenopausal women.The clinical manifestations include dry,photophobia,foreign body sensation,eyestrain,ophthalmalgia and other eye's discomfort.Some patients are companied with systemic symptoms of premenopausal period,such as hot flush,night sweat,palpitation,emotional instability,memory loss and osteoporosis,which seriously affect the quality of life of patients.At present,Western medicine has few treatment methods for perimenopausal dry eye,the treatment mainly alleviates local symptoms in a short time,but can not fundamentally solve the problem of patients.In contrast,traditional Chinese medicine has a variety of treatment methods,and the treatment must be based on the root cause.It can effectively balance the curative effect in the treatment of dry eyes,and has advantages such as fewer adverse reactions,significant ther-apeutic effects,and good compliance.The advantages of traditional Chinese medicine in treating perimenopausal dry eyes are closely relat-ed to traditional Chinese medicine theory."The kidney being the basis of congenital constitution,the female takes the liver as congenital".This sentence shows that the liver and kidney play a vital role in the occurrence and development of premenopausal dry eye.The theory of liver and kidney also profoundly impacts the syndrome differentiation and treatment of perimenopausal dry eye.In terms of the etiology and pathogenesis,kidney deficiency is the root cause of the disease,and the abnormal storage and drainage of the liver is an important link of the disease.At the same time,according to the theory of liver and kidney homogeny,the liver and kidney also affect each other in the pathogenesis of dry eye in perimenopause.Based on the relevant etiology and pathogenesis,clinical theories such as soothing the liver and nourishing blood,nourishing Yin(阴)and kidney,and tonifying the liver and kidney have been summarized to treat perimenopausal dry eye.This paper reviews the treatment of premenopausal dry eye from the above aspects of the causes of perimenopausal dry eye,treatment methods,clinical applications,etc.,to better serve the clinic in the future.
