A Meta-analysis of the effects of acupuncture plus rehabilitation on neurological function and limb movement disorders in stroke patients
Objective:To systematically evaluate the effect of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation on neurological function and limb movement disorders in patients with stroke. Methods:Chinese electronic databases(CNKI,Wanfang,VIP,Sinomed)and English electronic databases(PubMed,Embase)were searched to screen out clinical trials of acupuncture and moxibustion combined with rehabilitation for stroke from January 2012 to July 2022.Meta-analysis was performed by R Software(R-4.1.3).Results:After screening,a total of 12 randomized controlled trials involving 1 080 patients were included. It was concluded that acupuncture combined with rehabilitation can better improve neurological function indexes such as NIHSS score[SMD=-1.04,95%CI(-1.19,-0.89),P=0.13],CSS score[SMD=-1.29,95%CI(-1.59,-0.98),P=0.25],and can promote the recovery of limb motor function:FMA upper limb score[SMD= 1.99,95%CI(1.27,2.72),P<0.01],FMA lower limb score[SMD=1.30,95%CI(0.82,1.79),P<0.01],FMA unified upper and lower limb score[SMD=2.48,95%CI(0.70,4.26),P<0.01].It was more effective on improving the BI score of stroke patients[SMD=1.63,95%CI(0.52,2.74),P<0.01].Conclusion:Acupuncture-moxibustion with rehabilitation therapy has a significantly better effect on neurological function and motor disorder in stroke patients than the single treatment. However,in view of the lack of quantity and quality of the included studies,as well as methodological deficiencies, the conclusions need to be further investigated.
