A review on treating cutaneous mucosal lesions of systemic lupus erythematosus in TCM
Systemic lupus erythematosus is a typical autoimmune disease,and the damage of the skin and mucosa is the characteristic symptom of systemic lupus erythematosus,and its typical manifestations include butterfly erythema,Rayaud's phenomenon,vasculitis,photoallergy,alopecia,oral ulcers and so on.At present,the first-line treatment for skin involvement of systemic lupus erythematosus is still dominated by Western drugs,including hormone-based local drugs,antimalarial drugs and systemic hormones.With the effective popularization of medical knowledge nowadays,although patients are not nervous when talking about hormones,they still have certain concerns about the use of hormones.TCM has a long history of treatment,the effect on skin and mucous membrane lesions is remarkable,the adverse reactions are small,the treatment methods are various,easy to accept,not only alleviate the pain of patients,but also establish the confidence of patients in treatment.The etiology and pathogenesis of skin and mucous membrane lesions of systemic lupus erythematosus can be summarized as asthenia,stasis and toxicity:asthenia refers to deficiency of Qi(气)and blood,stasis refers to blood stasis,and toxicity mainly refers to the evil of external warm heat.This article reviews the treatment of skin and mucous membrane lesions in systemic lupus erythematosus based on the basic characteristics of the holistic concept and syndrome differentiation of TCM.This paper discusses the curative effects of TCM empirical prescription of ancient masters and modern practitioners,single Chinese medicine,and TCM external therapies,including TCM fumigation,external application,acupuncture and massage,which reflect the advantages of TCM.
