A discussion on eight confluent points in Zhen Fang Liu Ji
Zhen Fang Liu Ji(《针方六集》),written by WU Kun in his later years in Ming Dynasty, has a large number of passages on the eight confluent points, which has strong practicality, and is called acupuncture guiding principle. In this paper, the contents related to the eight methods of TCM in Zhen Fang Liu Ji are classified, analyzed, and summarized, and the following conclusions are drawn:the formation time of eight methods of TCM was not later than that of DOU Jie's Zhen Jing Zhinan(《针经指南》)in the Yuan Dynasty, and it was circulated in the form of rustic song in Yixue Xiao Jing(《医学小经》).It was proposed that Lieque point(LU7)is the collateral point of hand Yangming(阳明)large intestine meridian, and the theory of treating the liver and kidney simultaneously, which included the twelve meridians and eight extraordinary meridians. It was the first time to explain the treatment principle of eight confluent points based on the theory of"superficial, internal, and half superficial and half internal".It was proposed that Houxi point(SI3)and Shenmai point(BL62)were mainly used to treat painful diseases on the surface.Neiguan point(PC6)and Gongsun point(SP4)were mainly used to treat gastrointestinal and cardio-thoracic diseases, and Zulinqi point(GB41)and Waiguan point(SJ5)were mainly used to treat half superficial and half internal diseases such as the diseases in liver, gallbladder, and tri-jiao(三焦).The positioning of the eight confluent points was systematically sorted out.It is worth noting the positioning of Zhaohai point(KI6),Shenmai point and Lieque point, emphasizing deaccumulation and selecting four points simultaneously, the need to supplement method or reduce method on the basis of needling response, and taking the symptom amelioration as the sign of the end of a treatment. Finally, the author verifies it with clinical cases, analyzes the current clinical application of the eight confluent points, and presents the corresponding views,in order to provide some inspiration for the clinical application of the eight confluent points and a partial basis for further clinical research and application.
