Treating Sjogren's syndrome based on the theories of dryness and dampness in Yiyuan
Sjogren's syndrome is a common chronic inflammatory autoimmune rheumatic disease involving lacrimal glands, salivary glands and other exocrine glands in clinical practice.Dry mouth and dry eyes are the main clinical manifestations. The disease can damage other important internal organs and affect the quality of life of patients. The clinical symptoms of this disease are very different from the wet disease apparently, but part of the clinical dryness syndrome is actually caused by wet syndrome, and is closely related to the water metabolism disorder in the patient.Yiyuan(《医原》)was written by SHI Shoutang,a famous TCM practitioner in the Qing Dynasty. In this book, the explanation of dryness evil and dampness evil was particularly thorough, and it was believed that the formation of dryness-dampness syndrome was related to the season, the personal constitution, and the geographical location.Sjogren's syndrome is closely related to dryness and dampness, and is also influenced by the circulation of essence,Qi(气),blood, and body fluid. The clinical symptoms of this disease may appear quite different from those of dampness-related diseases, manifesting as a dryness syndrome, but its symptoms are closely related to the disturbance of water metabolism in the body.In clinical practice,Sjogren's syndrome is treated from the perspectives of dryness and dampness based on syndrome differentiation, and good curative effects have been gained.Based on the theories of dryness and dampness in Yiyuan, the treatment of Sjogren's syndrome is discussed in the paper from three aspects of dryness, dampness, and dryness-dampness agglutination,so as to provide new ideas for clinical treatment of this disease.
