Research progress of Chaihu Shugan powder in gastrointestinal diseases
Chaihu Shugan powder(柴胡疏肝散)is derived from the book of Medical Fundamentals.It is composed of seven Chinese herbs:Beichaihu(bupleurum),Shaoyao(Radix paeoniae alba),Chuanxiong(Ligusticum chuanxiong),Zhike(Fructus aurantii),Jupi(Pericarpium citri reticulatae),Xiangfu(Rhizoma cyperi),and Zhigancao(Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch).It has the functions of soothing liver depression,regulating Qi(气)and relieving stomach pain.It is often used for the related symptoms caused by the syndrome of liver-Qi stagnation,such as stomach distention and discomfort,hypochthonic pain,dry mouth and bitter mouth,loss of appetite,dry and irregular stool,and string or slow pulse,etc.Because the prescription is good at regulating Qi and the spleen and stomach are the hub of the Qi,the prescription often has a miraculous effect on the treatment of spleen and stomach diseases.Modern pharmaco-logical studies have found that the prescription contains a variety of effective compounds,such as saikosaponin,paeoniflorin,ferulic acid,tangerine,synephrine,liquiritigenin,etc.,which are mainly divided into four categories,namely saponins,flavonoids,phenolic acids,terpenoids,which have various pharmacological effects such as resisting inflammation,anti-oxidation,promoting gastrointestinal moto-genesis,anti-cancer,etc.Therefore,it is widely used in the treatment of a variety of gastrointestinal diseases,such as functional dyspepsia,chronic gastritis,chronic peptic ulcer,gastroesophageal reflux disease,irritable bowel syndrome,etc.,and can significantly improve TCM syndrome scores,reduce disease recurrence rate,and reduce adverse drug reactions.In addition,it can also play a positive role in cardio-vascular and cerebrovascular diseases,psychosomatic diseases,liver and bile diseases and metabolic diseases.This paper will discuss and summarize the latest research results of the clinical application and literature data of Buaihu Shugan powder in gastrointestinal diseases from the recent decade,in order to provide reference for the clinical application of Buaihu Shugan powder in the treatment of gastrointesti-nal diseases,and spark new inspiration in the clinical application and research.
