Research progress of acupuncture treatment for sleep disorders
Sleep disorder(Somnipathy)refers to a series of abnormal dysfunction in the sleep-wake process,which is often referred to as insomnia.Common insomnia in daily life may be related to bad habits,irregular sleep patterns,and fast food diets.Up to 15%of adults have long-term sleep disorders.Poor sleep quality often affects sleep duration,decreased attention,and memory.The pace of modem social life is fast,and insomnia seriously affects the quality of life of patients,bringing negative effects.Therefore,the medical community at home and abroad has also begun to pay attention to this disease.Western medicine generally advocates the use of sleeping or sedative drugs for treatment,but there are obvious side effects and there may be rebound after stopping the medication,which cannot eradicate it completely.As a traditional Chinese medicine therapy,acupuncture and moxibustion has received much attention in the treatment of sleep disorders in recent years.As a non drug intervention,acupuncture and moxibustion treatment has potential benefits for relieving sleep disorder symptoms and improving quality of life.Acupuncture treatment methods for sleep disorders include meridian acupoint stimulation,electric acupuncture,auricular point sticking and moxibustion,etc.,which play an active role in improving sleep quality,prolonging sleep time,reducing nocturnal arousal and alleviating anxiety and depression symptoms,and can also regulate sleep related neurotransmitters,hormones and brain activity,thus promoting sleep.In addition,acupuncture and moxibustion can also regulate the psychological state,positive emotions and depressive symptoms,and improve the quality of life.This article mainly explores the development and therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of sleep disorders,aiming to summarize the research progress of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of sleep disorders.
