A review on vasomotor symptoms in breast cancer induced by endocrine therapy in traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine
Endocrine therapy is one of the main treatment methods for patients with hormone receptor positive breast cancer, and the treatment duration can span several years, with a variety of complex and diverse adverse reactions.Vasomotor symptom(VMS)is one of the main adverse reactions of endocrine therapy, primarily manifesting as hot flashes and sweating, which is an important reason for patients undergoing endocrine therapy to seek medical attention.Alleviating VMS can increase the compliance of patients with endocrine therapy and improve their quality of life,so the treatment of VMS is increasingly valued.Currently, the pathogenesis of VMS induced by endocrine therapy for breast cancer is complex, and treatment methods are diverse.Hormone therapy is effective in ameliorating the symptoms of the disease, but is generally contraindicated for long-term use.Non-hormonal(such as paroxetine, venlafaxine)therapies are still recognized as the primary therapeutic measures with significant effects, but they can not fundamentally treat the disease and are accompanied by certain adverse reactions.Non-pharmacological therapeutic strategies(such as lifestyle adjustments and psychological interventions)are often used to alleviate mild VMS,and can also be used in conjunction with pharmacologic therapy.Traditional Chinese medicine therapies(such as Chinese medicine, acupuncture, auricular therapy)has the advantages of less adverse reactions,long-lasting effects, and strong specificity, providing more options for breast cancer patients troubled by VMS.By reviewing the recent domestic and international studies on VMS induced by endocrine therapy for breast cancer, this study elaborates its pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies from the perspectives of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine,so as to provide a theoretical reference for formulating individualized clinical treatment plans, thereby improving the quality of life of breast cancer patients undergoing endocrine therapy.
