Influencing the People and Cultivating Moral Customs:The Confucian Temple and the Cultural Governance in the Gan-Ning-Qing Provincial Border Areas of the Ming and Qing Dynasties
The Confucian Temple is a national ritual building for the worship of Confucius and other Confucian sages.In order to promote the concept of"Hua-yi integration",the Ming and Qing governments took"building temples and schools"as an important means of cultural governance in the border areas of Gan-Ning-Qing Provinces.Under the official leadership of the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the construction of Confucian temples in this area boomed.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the local government promoted the development of cultural and educational undertakings in the region by establishing temples to worship Confucius and setting up schools to promote education,which realized the enlightenment of"influencing the people and forming moral customs".Asa symbol and carrier of the country's orthodox culture,the localization practice of the Confucian Temple not only promoted the integration process between the northwest frontier region and the hinterland area,but also facilitated the strengthening of the recognition of Chinese culture and unified multi-ethnic country by all ethnic groups,and promoted the formation of the community sense of the Chinese nation.
