Sharing Same Roots Across the Strait:Ancestral Home,Designation and Social Identification of Garrison Soldiers' Tombs in Late Qing Dynasty
In the late Qing Dynasty,the Xiang and Huai armies had strong local strength,and were gradually distributed throughout the whole country due to the development of the situation.During the reign of Tongzhi and Guangxu,a large number of soldiers entered Taiwan.Later a number of tomb sites and relics were left in Taiwan,which continued to witness the garrison soldiers'sacrifice in Taiwan because during defense wars.Previously,the academic community focused studies on the evolution of the military system and the battle of the Qing Dynasty,and important figures.However,the specific composition of the soldiers'camp,the relationship and the cohesion foundation of the soldiers were difficult to explore due to limited historical materials.The relic site of garrison soldiers stationed in Taiwan can demonstrate the historical materials of the camp.Furthermore,the designation,ancestral home and the people who set up the tombstone can also show the social relations of some soldiers and the symbolic significance of designation towards fostering cohesion among those soldiers.
