Objective To establish a method for the determination of polysaccharide in the stems and leaves of Glehnia littoralis, thus to supply evidence for the quality control as well as the development and utilization of Glehnia littoralis. Methods Anthrone sulfuric acid method was applied for the determination of polysaccharide in the stems and leaves of Glehnia littoralis, which were collected at different time and from different plots. Results The total amount of polysaccharides in the stems and leaves of Glehnia littoralis was extraordinarily rich, up to 21%. The content of the soluble sugar and the total polysaccharide was similar in the stems and leaves of Glehnia littoralis which were collected in the same collection year from different plots (P> 0.05), but was different when collecting in various years (P<0.01). Conclusion The polysaccharide in the stems and leaves of Glehnia littoralis is worth of development and utilization.
