Calcific aortic valve disease(CAVD)is a progressive heart valve disorder,which has similar pathogenesis of atherosclerosis,involving lipid deposition,inflammatory response,and extracellular matrix remodeling. Inflammation plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of CAVD. Macrophages as central executors of the inflammatory response,whose polarization state is closely related to disease progression. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory suggests a close connection between macrophage polarization and yin-yang theory. This paper introduces the effect of macrophage with different polarization states on CAVD,as well as the role and mechanisms of TCM in regulating macrophage polarization to prevent and treat CAVD through muti-pathway,aiming to provide new insights for the treatment of CAVD with TCM.
