Analysis on current situation and influencing factors of multidimensional health of the elderly in western Hunan Province
Objective To understand the current status of multidimensional health and its influencing factors among the elderly in western Hunan Province, provide the basis for the government to formulate relevant policies. Methods A multi-stage stratified sampling method was adopted to select 540 elderly people who met the criteria of inclusion and exclusion in western Hunan Province from January to March 2022.Their multidimensional health status was evaluated using the Chinese multidimensional assessment scale of health functioning in the elderly(MHASE).Results The mean score of total multidimensional health of the elderly was(72.98±12.22)points,and six dimensions scores from highest to lowest were:daily living ability[(23.47±3.16)points],social relationship resources[(18.50±3.37)points],mental health[(18.23±3.16)points],physical health[(18.22±3.40)points],economic resources[(17.97±3.49)points],and cognitive ability[(13.43±2.09)points].The multiple stepwise regression analysis results indicated that the presence of chronic diseases, education level, current residence, and marital status were the main influencing factors of multidimensional health of the elderly(all P<0.05).Conclusions The multidimensional health level of the elderly in western Hunan Province needs to be improved. The chronic illness, low education level, current residence in an urban/rural area, and unmarried are the risk factors for multidimensional health in the elderly. It is recommended that family and social security support should be strengthened for older adults who are female, divorced, less educated, live in urban-rural areas, rely on assistance from government or others, have chronic diseases, and have no children.
