Analysis on influence of mobile phone dependence on depression and anxiety of college students in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and the mediating effect of insomnia
Objective To explore the impact of mobile phone dependence on depression and anxiety in college students,and analyze the mediating effect of insomnia in it,so as to provide scientific evidence for preventing depression and anxiety problems in college students.Methods From March to May 2021,792 undergraduate students from a university in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps were surveyed using the mobile phone addiction index(MPAI),patient health questionnaire-9(PHQ-9),generalized anxiety disorder-7(GAD-7),and Athens insomnia scale(AIS).Results Among the surveyed subjects,the detection rate of mobile phone dependence was 48.4%,the detection rate of insomnia was 37.4%,and the proportion of moderate/moderate/severe depression was 21.9%,and anxiety was 37.5%.There was a positive correlation between mobile phone dependence and depression,anxiety,and insomnia scores(r=0.47,0.42,0.43,all P<0.01).There was a positive correlation between insomnia scores and depression,anxiety scores(r=0.63,0.58,both P<0.01).Insomnia played a partial mediating role between college students'mobile phone dependence and depression,anxiety,with mediating effects of 0.098(95%CI:0.075-0.124)and 0.079(95%CI:0.059-0.103),respectively,accounting for 48.04%and 49.07%of the total effect.Conclusion Mobile phone dependence can directly or indirectly affect depression and anxiety problems through insomnia.Therefore,appropriate intervention measures should be taken for college students with sleep disorders caused by mobile phone dependence,so as to reduce the harm of mobile phone dependence on their mental health.
