Life satisfaction on relationship between resilience and depression in firefighters
Objective To explore the mediating effect of life satisfaction in the relationship between psychological resilience and depression among firefighters,in order to provide a theoretical basis for increasing the life satisfaction of firefighters, improving their level of psychological resilience and reducing the occurrence of depression, and maintaining the physical and mental health of individuals. Methods Using snowball and cluster sampling methods,464 firefighters from Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei were surveyed from October to November 2022 with the general information questionnaire,Connor-Davidson resilience scale, life satisfaction scale and self-rating depression scale, and AMOS 28.0 was used to analyze the mediating effect of life satisfaction between psychological resilience and depression. Results The 464 firefighters scored(88.95±16.72)points for psychological resilience,(47.36±11.27)points for depression,and(22.25±6.34)points for life satisfaction. The correlation analysis showed that psychological resilience was positively correlated with life satisfaction(r=0.511,P<0.01),and depression was negatively correlated with both psychological resilience and life satisfaction(r=-0.594,-0.466,both P<0.01).The analysis of the mediating effect showed that life satisfaction partially mediated between psychological resilience and depression, with a mediating effect of-0.078,accounting for 19.8%of the total effect. Conclusion The psychological resilience of firefighters in Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei can indirectly affect firefighter depression through the mediating effect of life satisfaction.
