Impact of work-family gain and occupational resilience on occupational burnout among internal medicine nurses
Objective To understand the work-family gain, occupational resilience, and occupational burnout status of internal medicine nurses, and to analyze the mediating role of occupational resilience. Methods From April to May 2023,a convenience sampling method was used to select 212 internal medicine nurses from 5 grade-A tertiary hospitals in Qingdao as the survey subjects. The general situation scale, work family gain scale, occupational resilience scale, and occupational burnout scale were used for investigation and analysis. Results The scores of work family gain, occupational resilience, and occupational burnout for internal medicine nurses were(47.62±8.28),(41.36±8.14),and(61.68±12.36)points,respectively.There were statistically significant differences in work-family gain scores among internal medicine nurses of different ages, length of internal medicine service, educational level, professional title, marital status, monthly income, daily working hours, and whether they worked night shift(all P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in occupational resilience scores among internal medicine nurses of different ages, length of internal medicine service, educational level, professional title, monthly income, and daily working hours(all P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in job burnout scores among internal medicine nurses of different ages, length of internal medicine service, educational level, professional title, marital status, monthly income, daily working hours, and whether they worked night shift(all P<0.05).The occupational burnout of internal medicine nurses was negatively correlated with work family gain and occupational burnout(r=-0.585,-0.618,both P<0.01),while work family gain was positively correlated with occupational resilience(r=0.633,P<0.01).The professional resilience of internal medicine nurses played a partial mediating role between work family gain and occupational burnout, with a mediating effect of-0.286,accounting for 47.51%of the total effect. Conclusion The work family gain and occupational resilience of internal medicine nurses in tertiary hospitals in Qingdao have a negative predictive effect on occupational burnout, and psychological resilience partially mediates the relationship between work family gain and occupational burnout.Improving the level of work family gain and occupational resilience is beneficial for reducing their occupational burnout.
