Influence of personality traits and professional attitude on self-directed learning ability of nursing students in Liaoning Province
Objective To understand the status of self-directed learning ability among nursing students in Liaoning Province,and to explore the influence of personality traits and professional attitudes on self-directed learning ability.Methods From January to April 2023,a cluster sampling method was used to select 517 nursing undergraduates from a medical college and university in Liaoning Province as the research subjects.A general social demographic questionnaire,a self-directed learning ability scale for nursing students,the Chinese big five personality questionnaire brief version and a professional attitude scale for nursing students were used for the questionnaire survey,and the data were analyzed.Results The total score of self-directed learning ability of nursing students was(74.08±14.30)points.There were statistically significant differences in the score of self-directed learning ability among nursing students with different grades,major choices,average college grades,family economic situation,whether they were student leaders or the only child(all P<0.05).Self-directed learning ability was positively correlated with conscientiousness,agreeableness,openness,extraversion and professional attitude(all P<0.01).Grade,family economic situation,the personality of conscientiousness,agreeableness,openness,extraversion,professional development,contribution to scientific knowledge and cooperation were the main influencing factors of nursing students'self-directed learning ability(all P<0.05),which accounting for 72.7%of the variance.Conclusion The level of self-directed learning ability among nursing students is medium.Nursing educators should focus on cultivating the personality and professional attitude of nursing students,and pay attention to the different grades and family economic situation of nursing students to improve their self-directed learning abilities.
