Mediating role of active coping style between occupational burnout and work engagement among operating room nurses
Objective To explore the correlation between the positive coping style,occupational burnout and work engagement of operating room nurses,and the mediating effect of positive coping style between occupational burnout and work engagement.Methods From April to August 2023,380 operating room nurses from 8 grade-A tertiary hospitals in Shaanxi Province were selected by convenience sampling method to conduct questionnaire surveys using general information questionnaire,occupational burnout scale,simple coping style scale and work engagement scale,and the data were analyzed by univariate analysis,correlation analysis and mediating effect test.Results The scores of positive coping,occupational burnout and work engagement of operating room nurses were(23.25±6.34),(34.96±12.80)and(31.27±10.02)points,respectively.The results of correlation analysis showed that active coping among operating room nurses was negatively correlated with occupational burnout(r=-0.230,P<0.01),work engagement was positively correlated with positive coping(r=0.418,P<0.01),and work engagement was negatively correlated with occupational burnout(r=-0.417,P<0.05).The active coping of operating room nurses played a partial mediating role between occupational burnout and work engagement,accounting for 14.85%of the effect.Conclusion The active coping of operating room nurses plays a partial mediating role between occupational burnout and work engagement.Surgical room nursing managers should pay attention to this mediating effect,actively guide nurses to take proactive measures when facing difficulties and problems,alleviate the fatigue caused by work,and enhance their work engagement.
