Mediating role of psychological capital between mental power and occupational burnout in the workplace of internal medicine nurses
Objective To understand the mental strength,psychological capital,and occupational burnout status of internal medicine nurses in the workplace,and to analyze the mediating role of psychological capital.Methods From April to May 2023,a convenience sampling method was used to select 186 nurses from the internal medicine departments of six grade-A tertiary comprehensive hospitals in Qingdao City as the survey subjects.The general situation scale,workplace mental power scale,psychological capital scale,and occupational burnout scale were used for the survey,and the data were analyzed.Results The workplace spirituality score of internal medicine nurses was(102.86±16.28)points,the psychological capital score was(88.23±15.53)points,and the occupational burnout score was(6035±1 1.18)points.There were statistically significant differences in workplace mental strength scores among internal medicine nurses of different ages,educational levels,working years,professional titles,monthly income,monthly night shifts,marital status,and work-family conflicts(all P<0.05).The comparison of psychological capital among internal medicine nurses of different ages,working years,professional titles,monthly income,monthly night shifts,and work-family conflicts showed statistically significant differences(all P<005).The comparison of occupational burnout scores among internal medicine nurses with different ages,working years,professional titles,monthly income,monthly night shifts,and work-family conflicts showed statistical significance differences(all P<0.05).There were negative correlation between occupational burnout among internal medicine nurses and their workplace mental strength and psychological capital(r=-0.628,-0.613,both P<0.01),while there was a positive correlation between workplace mental strength and psychological capital(r=0.762,P<0.01).The psychological capital of internal medicine nurses played a partial mediating effect between workplace mental strength and occupational burnout,with a mediating effect of-0.270,accounting for 49.19%of the total effect.Conclusion The mental strength of internal medicine nurses in grade-A tertiary hospitals in Qingdao was at a moderate level,and psychological capital played a partial mediating role between the workplace mental power and occupational burnout of internal medicine nurses.Improving the level of psychological capital and workplace mental power can help reduce the level of occupational burnout of internal medicine nurses.
