Animal Models of Silicosis Based on Clinical Symptoms in Chinese and Western Medicine
The establishment of the animal models that highly mimic the clinical pathogenesis and symptoms helps to explore the entire process of the occurrence and development of silicosis and facilitate the in-depth research on silicosis. We introduced the available animal models of sili-cosis from modeling methods, mechanisms, advantages and disadvantages, and consistency between model and clinical symptoms. The models established with the tracheal exposure, intratracheal instillation, and aerosol inhalation methods had high consistency with clinical symptoms, which are mostly western medicine modeling methods and do not involve Chinese medicine factors. Most of the animal models of silicosis meet the diagnostic criteria and clinical symptoms of western medicine, while their clinical manifestations that reflect TCM syndromes are rarely mentioned. This makes the TCM knowledge gained from the accumulated experience in practice unable to obtain theoretical support and de-velopment.Therefore,the exploring the establishment of the animal models of silicosis that reflects the TCM syndrome is an important direc-tion of future research.
