Compatibility Attenuates Toxicity of Fuzi(附子)from Metabolic Enzymes:A Review
Fuzi(附子)is a the processed products of the branch roots of Aconitum carmichaeli Debx.,a perennial herb of Ranunculaceae. With the effects of Huiyangjiuni(回阳救逆),Sanhanzhitong(散寒止痛),and Wenyanghuaqi(温阳化气),Fuzi has a long history of medical use and a unique application system in China. The diterpenoid alkaloids contained in Fuzi can cause serious damage to the heart and nervous sys-tem in the cases of overdosing and improper compatibility. It remains unclear whether such damage is associated with the actions of drug-me-tabolizing enzymes in the liver.Regarding the drug-metabolizing enzymes in the liver, this article elaborates on the metabolic properties of the active components in Fuzi and the effects of compatibility on drug-metabolizing enzymes to expand the application scope, reduce the toxic and side effects, and promote the rational development and safe application of Fuzi in clinical practice, aiming to provide innovative ideas for the research on the toxicity reduction and efficacy increase by the compatibility and the rational application of Fuzi.
