Mechanisms of TCM in Preventing and Treating AIDS Based on Intestinal Microecology Regulation
Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has advantages in delaying the onset of disease in HIV-infected individuals, regulating immune function, improving clinical symptoms, and enhancing the quality of life. However, due to the complex and diverse clinical symptoms of HIV/AIDS,TCM syndrome is characterized by Xushijiaza(虚实夹杂),leading to the use of multiple Chinese herbal drugs in clinical treatment. This complexity makes it challenging to elucidate the mechanisms of action of TCM in the treatment of HIV/AIDS,as it does not act on a sin-gle target or pathway. This study reviewed the current status of research on the intestinal microecology in HIV/AIDS and its clinical applica-tion in TCM practice, proposed the use of techniques such as 16s rDNA sequencing, metagenomics, flow cytometry, and ELISA to study the di-versity of gut microbiota in HIV/AIDS patients, changes in intestinal mucosal barrier permeability and integrity, and intestinal immune respon-ses,and further investigated how TCM regulated the gut microbiota to protect the intestinal mucosal barrier and enhance intestinal immunity. This study is expected to clarify the underlying mechanisms by which TCM exerts its multi-target and multi-stage effects on the regulation of intestinal microecology.
