Animal Models of Diabetic Retinopathy Based on Characteristics of Clinical Symptoms of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the complications of diabetes mellitus, which seriously endangers the vision of patients.Based on the clinical symptoms of DR in traditional Chinese and western medicine, this paper analyzed and summarized the commonly used animal models of DR,and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of animal models and the future application directions. The Results showed that the ex-isting methods for inducing models of DR included induction method and spontaneous genotype, among which streptozotocin (STZ) induction method and high-sugar and high-fat diet combined with STZ induction method were the most commonly used. The spontaneous genotype was less studied in China due to the high cost of rodents. The small number of studies on the spontaneous genotype, the lack of unified traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) evaluation criteria for zebrafish, and other factors limited the development of animal models of DR.Therefore,it is necessary to establish an animal model that is more in line with the development process of DR in human, which is also of great significance for the prevention and treatment of the disease, the elaboration of the pathogenesis, and the development of new drugs.
