Chinese Medicines Regulate PI3K/AKT Signaling Pathway to Treat Psoriasis:A Review
Psoriasis,an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory disease,is difficult to be cured and prone to relapse, causing trouble to the patients.Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway,as the hub to maintain cell homeostasis,is closely related to the pathogenesis of psoriasis, and it may be involved in the regulation of abnormal proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes. This pathway can down-regulate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to inhibit angiogenesis, and it can activate down-stream mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) to induce autophagy. At present, the Western medical therapies for psoriasis mainly include biological agents and small-molecule targeted drugs, which showcase limited therapeutic effects and may induce drug dependence and adverse reactions.Chinese medicines have achieved good results in the treatment of psoriasis because of the high safety and mild side effects, gaining increasing attention from patients. At present, experimental and clinical studies have been carried out regarding the treatment of psoriasis with Chinese medicines active components and compound prescriptions, while the pathogenesis of this disease remains to be systematically ana-lyzed.This paper reviews the studies about the treatment of psoriasis with Chinese medicine active components and compound prescriptions via regulating the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, aiming to provide a theoretical basis for the treatment of psoriasis with Chinese medicines and the development of new drugs.
