Professor Cai Shengchao's Acupuncture Treatment for Perimenopausal Insomnia Based on the"Xuanfu"Theory
The perimenopausal period is a unique phase for women around menopause, with insomnia as a primary symptom.Professor Cai Shengchao identifies the pathogenesis of perimenopausal insomnia as deficiencies in the Thoroughfare and conception vessels, dysfunction of the"Xuanfu,"imbalance of Yin and Yang, and vital activity apraxia.Based on clinical observations,he has categorized four common syndrome types:deficiency of essence and blood, stagnation due to Yang deficiency,qi stagnation due to liver depression, and Yin deficiency with effulgent fire. His original"acupuncture technique for regulating conception vessel and opening"Xuanfu"to tranquilize mind"addresses treatment from four perspectives:tonifying and replenishing essence and blood to tonify deficiency and open"Xuanfu";warming and tonifying Yang qi to unblock stagnation and open"Xuanfu";diffusing and unblocking qi movement to dissipate stagnation and open"Xuanfu";and enrich Yin to down-bear fire and clear the heart to open"Xuanfu".This approach aims to provide new perspectives for the clinical treatment of perimenopausal insomnia based on syndrome differentiation.
