Recently,with the change of people's lifestyle and diet,the incidence of gout is increasing year by year.The main symptoms of gout acute attack stage is joints swelling and heat pain,which is unbearable.It can also form gouty stone over time,which can seriously affect the quality of life of patients.At present,western medicine treatment is mainly reducing uric acid levels and anti-inflammation and pain relief.However,a little carelessness can easily induce joints pain recurrence.There are also side effects such as liver and kidney function damage and gastrointestinal adverse reactions,which can have an impact on the ef-fectiveness.Therefore,the exploration of the diversity of gout treatment has gradually attracted the interest of many scholars.Tra-ditional Chinese medicine has unique advantages in the treatment of gout.Among them,as a natural isoquinoline alkaloid that ex-ists in traditional medicines such as Huanglian(Coptidis Rhizoma)and Huangbai(Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex),the therapeu-tic effect of berberine on gout is gradually attracting wide attention from scholars.Many studies had reported that berberine can play a beneficial role in improving clinical symptoms and reducing laboratory indicators in patients with gout.By reviewing the lit-erature,it was found that its mechanism of action including regulating immunity,alleviating inflammation,reducing uric acid,resu-ming renal function,maintaining microbial flora balance,regulating cell apoptosis and bone metabolism.This article mainly re-viewed the mechanism of berberine in the treatment of gout by classification,in order to provide ideas and references for the clini-cal treatment of gout with traditional Chinese medicine and the further research and development of berberine.
