Exploring the Establishment of Overseas"Social & Health Studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine(SHSTCM)"and SWOT Analysis
With the increasing global attention on traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),the development of TCM overseas has brought both opportunities and multiple challenges,including cultural differences,legal constraints,medical insurance policies and professional qualifications certification.Particularly in education and research,there is still a tendency to prioritize clinical prac-tice over scientific research.In recent years,more and more overseas TCM education institutions have begun to cultivate a group of high-level TCM professionals with doctoral degrees and have begun to attach importance to scientific research.This article explored the establishment of"Social & Health Studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine(SHSTCM)"as a new path for overseas TCM practitioners to conduct scientific research.This emerging interdisciplinary field integrates research methods from TCM,so-cial sciencesand health sciences,aiming to delve into the practice and value of TCM in contemporary society,promote the interna-tionalization and modernization of TCM,and its application in the global health field.The article first discussed the contributions of social sciences and health sciences to TCM research,and through three successful cases of complementary and alternative medi-cine,demonstrated the role of social science research methods in promoting the development of TCM.Furthermore,leveraging the SWOT analysis framework widely used in business strategy,the article comprehensively analyzed the internal strengths,weaknes-ses,external opportunitiesand threats of constructing"SHSTCM",aiming to provide strategic thinking and research directions for the development of TCM overseas.Additionally,"SHSTCM"will also have reference significance for the development of TCM in mainland of China,providing a new perspective and research path for the further development of TCM on both domestic and inter-national stages.
