Research Progress on Antidepressant Effect of Xiaoyao Powder(逍遥散)
Depression is currently a chronic and life-threatening mental illness with a high incidence, and Xiaoyao Powder(逍遥散)is a commonly used formula.Numerous clinical studies and animal experiments have confirmed its exact antidepres-sant effect, and its antidepressant mechanism of action is also widely studied. This article attempts to elaborate on the current re-search status of the antidepressant effect of Xiaoyao Powder from two aspects:its clinical application and mechanism of action. The study has found that Xiaoyao Powder can be used for the treatment or adjuvant treatment of various types of depression, such as postpartum depression, mild to moderate depression, perimenopausal depression, etc. It is found that Xiaoyao Powder could reg-ulate the levels of monoamine neurotransmitters and the activity of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis(HPA axis),improve neuroplasticity and inhibit immune inflammation by increasing the expression levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BD-NF),cytokine and α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-propionicacid receptor(AMPA)and regulate the"mi-crobial gut brain"axis and other ways. This article summarized and analyzed the research on the treatment of depression with Xi-aoyao Powder in the past 10 years. It is found that clinical research on the antidepressant effect of Xiaoyao Powder lacks multi-center,large sample and high-quality randomized double blind controlled trials.Secondly, the mechanism of the antidepressant effect of Xiaoyao Powder is too broad and not deep enough.Xiaoyao Powder has a regulatory effect on each pathway, but the inter-action between multiple pathways need further in-depth research and excavation. Therefore, this article aims to provide more i-deas for in-depth research on the antidepressant effect, more directions and choices for the research and development of Xiaoyao Powder, fully demonstrating the advantages and characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine clinical treatment.
