Acupuncture Combined with Functional Electrical Stimulation in Treatment of Knee Hyperextension after Stroke
Objective To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture combined with functional electrical stimulation in patients with knee hyperextension after stroke. Methods A total of 99 patients with knee hyperextension after stroke(admitted to Sanya Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and The Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine from January 2022 to August 2023)were included in this study. The patients were divided into the conventional group(49 cases)and the study group(50 cases)by random number table method. The patients in the conventional group received routine rehabilitation treatment. Those in the study group were treated with acupuncture and functional electrical stimulation on the basis of the conven-tional group and the data of each group were observed. The treatment effect of knee hyperextension, the range of motion(ROM)efficacy, the changes in the number of knee hyperextension before and after treatment, the changes in the time of 10 m walking test, functional ambulation category scale(FAC),the changes in Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FM A)and Berg balance scale(BSS)scores, the changes of gait spatial parameters(stride frequency, stride speed, stride length),the determination of extensor and flex-or peak moments to evaluate the changes of muscle strength before and after treatment, and the levels of C-reactive protein(CRP),interleukin-6(IL-6)and tumor necrosis factor α(TNF-α)before and after treatment were observed and compared. Results The therapeutic effect of knee hyperextension and knee ROM in the study group were higher than those in the convention-al group(P<0.05).After treatment, the number of knee hyperextension decreased in both groups, the 10 m walking test time was shortened, the scores of FAC,FMA and BBS,the values of gait spatial parameters(stride frequency, stride speed, stride length)and the peak moments of extensor and flexor muscles were improved, and the levels of CRP,IL-6 and TNF-α were de-creased,while the number of knee hyperextension in the study group was less than that in the conventional group after treatment. The duration of 10 m walking test was shorter than that of the control group, the scores of FAC,FMA and BBS,the values of gait spatial parameters(stride frequency, stride speed, stride length)and the peak moments of extensor and flexor muscles were better than those of the conventional group, the levels of CRP,IL-6 and TNF-α were lower than those of the conventional group(P<0.05).Conclusion The clinical effect of acupuncture combined with functional electrical stimulation in the treatment of knee hy-perextension after stroke is remarkable, and the symptoms and knee joint function are improved. It is worthy of application.
