Exploring Mechanism of"Phlegm Causing All Diseases"from Perspective of Macrophage Polarization Imbalance
"All diseases are caused by phlegm"is a high generalization of the etiology and pathogenesis of many difficult diseases by ancient Chinese doctors.Through reading ancient and modern literature,this paper analyzed the pathogenic character-istics of phlegm and fluid retention,related pathology and the internal relationship between phlegm and fluid retention related dis-eases and the polarization imbalance of macrophages,in order to explore the profound connotation of"all diseases are caused by phlegm"from the perspective of the polarization imbalance of macrophages.It is found that whether the formation of phlegm and fluid retention,the pathogenicity of phlegm and fluid retention,the variation of phlegm and fluid retention were similar to the po-larization of macrophages,or the pathological correlation between chronic inflammation caused by phlegm and fluid retention,the pathological disorder of glucose and lipid metabolism,and the pathological dysfunction of nerve and the imbalance of macrophage polarization,as well as obesity,Alzheimer's disease,diabetes,asthma,cancer and other diseases related to phlegm and fluid reten-tion and the imbalance of macrophage polarization,indicating that"phlegm and fluid retention"and"macrophage polarization im-balance"is closely related.Therefore,it is believed that the imbalance of macrophage polarization may be the material basis of"all diseases caused by phlegm",that is,the modern biological basis of"all diseases caused by phlegm"can be interpreted from the angle of the imbalance of macrophage polarization.
