Brain tumors are a type of benign or malignant tumors that occur within the cranial cavity. The disease mechanism is complex, posing a threat to the patient's life and health. At present, although modern medicine and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)have made some achievements in the treatment of brain tumor,an universally effective treatment remains elusive, necessitating further exploration of novel therapeutic approaches. In recent years, modern medicine has acknowledged the intimate relationship among the brain-gut axis, intestinal microbiota, and brain tumor.According to TCM,the brain-gut axis embodies holistic concept, with intestinal microbiota conceptually akin to spleen and stomach, establishing profound connections among brain, intestine, and spleen and stomach.Spleen deficiency hampers fluid regulation, leading to the production of phlegm-dampness,which can ascend to brain and manifest as brain tumor, constituting the primary pathogenesis. Thus, based on the theory of the brain-gut axis, spleen invigoration and phlegm elimination in the treatment of brain tumor holds significant clinical guidance. This paper delineated the specific impacts of spleen invigoration and phlegm elimination on intestinal microbiota and brain tumor, offering a theoretical foundation for the feasibility and efficacy of this therapeutic approach.Furthermore,it analyzed the interplay among the brain-gut axis, intestinal microbiota, spleen and stomach, and brain tumor from both TCM and western medicine perspectives, exploring the role of spleen invigoration and phlegm elimination in brain tumor treatment to provide innovative clinical strategies.
