A Clinical Observation on Spleen-Fortifying Dampness-Dispelling Heat-Clearing Blood-Cooling Formula Combined with Stasis-Dispersing Pain-Relieving Topical Ointments for 48 Cases of Acute Gouty Arthritis
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of Spleen-Fortifying Dampness Dispelling Heat-Clearing BloodCooling Formula (SDHBF) combined with Stasis-Dispersing Pain-Relieving Topical Ointments (SPTO) for acute gouty arthritis. Methods Totally 96 cases of acute gouty arthritis were randomized into the treatment group and control group, with 48 in each. The treatment group was given one dose of SDHBF daily and SPTO once per 24 hours. The control group was orally given colchicine tablets from the initial dose of 1 mg,then 0.5 mg/h or 1 mg/2 h to maximum dose of 6-8 mg/d until the symptoms relieved and 0.5 mg 2 or 3 times daily after remission. The treatment lasted for 7 days. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR),C-reactive protein (CRP),white blood cell (WBC),uric acid (UA),symptoms score and signs score were compared between groups and within group before and after treatment. The therapeutic effect and adverse reactions were observed. Results The ESR,CRP,WBC,UA,symptoms score and signs score were significantly decreased in both groups after treatment (P<0.05).There was a significant difference between groups in the swelling score after treatment (P<0.05).The total effective rate of the treatment group and control group was 89.6% and 87.5% respectively, with no significant difference between groups (P>0.05).Conclusion The combo therapy of SDHBF and SPTO is effective for acute gouty arthritis and it can obviously relieve the clinical symptoms and signs and reduce UA.
